St. Anthony Friary (Parish Fraternity),
Ugbene II, Enugu

History:

After many years of implanting the Capuchin Order in Nigeria and having erected the basic formation fraternities in the country, the need was felt for the friars to further engage themselves in the apostolate of the local church.

It was to meet this need that the then regular superior, Br. Mark Ezeh, in his February 18, 2006 letter, made a formal application for a parish in Enugu. Sequel to this, by the mutual contract signed on October 31, 2007, the then Bishop of Enugu diocese granted the Capuchins the administration of the parish of St. Francis of Assisi, Ugbene II; and by another agreement dated October 22, 2008, the Bishop further entrusted this same parish to the capuchins in perpetuity.

The initial friars to be assigned to the parish first resided in a small rented house very close to the parish, while overseeing the work of the construction of a proper friary - St. Anthony friary. The friars moved into the new friary in august 15, 2009.
